About Me

I definitely don't like being hit on by beautiful young women (unless they are seeking moral guidance and the transcendent). I'm only doing this to keep in touch with friends.

I've made my living as a writer since 1997. I've written four books (A History of X: 100 Years of Sex in Film, XXX-Communicated: A Rebel Without A Shul, The Producers: Profiles in Frustration, and Yesterday's News Tomorrow: Inside American Jewish Journalism). I like to spend most of my spare time serving G-d and hanging out with friends (most of them are either in my Orthodox Jewish community or are writers -- Cathy Seipp, Matt Welch, Emmanuelle Richard, David Rensin, etc). As I don't have a wife and kids to look after, I try to read several books a week, mostly non-fiction (history, religion, economics).

I'm in the process of writing three books. One is a collection of my best interviews centered around self-destruction. It's tentatively titled LIVES ON THE EDGE. The other is particularly dear to my heart. It's my first novel. MY LAST SHIKSA is about an Orthodox Jew's last fling with a Gentile. The tag line is -- "He thought it was just for fun. He was wrong." My final book on my immediate agenda is about Orthodox rabbis who are sexual predators.

I'm a religious humanist. All of my interests center on people. Rivers, animals, landscapes and technology are of no interest to me except as they serve people.

I love to get to know people in a deep way. In my interviews, I try to uncover what makes people tick. If someone intelligent talks honestly about himself, I can listen for hours.

Ethical people who read and are funny. I want to meet a woman who will share Shabbos and Judaism with me (why then have I only had relationships with shiksas over the past six years?). I want to have kids. I'm tired of meaningless sex.
